Beer pong without water: how dry-cup play works
Dry-cup beer pong replaces the water used to weight the cups with a reusable insert. Pong Anchors sit in empty cups, add weight, and cushion the ball. The throwing game remains familiar; alcohol and a connected scoreboard are not required.
Why put weight in a beer pong cup?
An empty lightweight cup can move when a ball hits it. A Pong Anchor adds weight inside the cup, with a feel designed to be comparable to about four ounces of water. Its soft top cushions the ball and its raised wood base helps the insert settle. This is a product design description, not a claim that a cup can never tip or move.
Drop one anchor into an empty cup while holding its soft top. Use a clean, dry, stable table. The set is designed for dry play; there is no reason to fill the cups with water when using the inserts.
Water cups versus dry cups
| Consideration | Water in game cups | Pong Anchors in dry cups |
|---|---|---|
| Cup weight | Comes from the water you add | Comes from a reusable weighted insert |
| Before play | Fill and carry water to the table | Drop an insert into each empty cup |
| After play | Empty the game water | Count, wipe as needed, and dry the inserts |
| Water spills from game cups | Possible when cups spill | No game water to spill |
| Connected scoring | Separate decision | Separate decision; not included in the kit |
Dry play does not mean a room will never need cleaning. Personal drinks, the table surface, and general event cleanup are still your responsibility. The specific benefit is removing water from the game cups.
Do the beer pong rules change?
The host still decides the shooting order, re-racks, bounce rules, and endgame. Use the starter house rules if you need a simple format. Cups remain targets; remove a cup when a shot lands. Drinking is not a scoring requirement.
If you are entering a sanctioned tournament, check its equipment rules. Our dry-cup format is not a statement that weighted inserts are approved by every organizer.
What do you need for dry beer pong?
The Pong Anchors Standard Set includes 20 inserts, 20 cups, 6 balls, and a carry case for $349.99, with free U.S. shipping. It equips one table. You provide the table; any taxes are shown at checkout. The physical kit works without an app, TV, or subscription.
For on-screen stats or paid games, explore BP Scoreboard Bar Edition separately. That system uses phone-entered shot tracking and needs a current proposal for hardware, software fees, and setup.
